Mrs. Helen Ledford Hunter

Chester Mrs. Helen Lanell Ledford Hunter, 90, died Sunday, January 24, 2021, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Jonathan Parrish officiating. Interment will follow in Chester Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM Tuesday, January 26, at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie St., Chester, SC. The family requests that face coverings be worn and social distancing be observed. Mrs. Hunter was born May 7, 1930 in Clinton, SC and was a daughter of the late John William Ledford and Elizabeth Hawks Gregory. She was a graduate of Calhoun Falls High School and was employed for more than 34 years with Springs Industries where she worked at both the Eureka and Katherine plants. She also worked full time with Walmart as a fitting room attendant having retired just prior to her 79th birthday. Mrs. Hunter was a member of First Church of the Nazarene where she loved singing in the choir and especially loved preparing for Easter and Christmas cantatas. She had a fierce love for God, her church and her family. She is survived by two daughters, Jerri Hatchell and Donna Gregory and her husband, Ray, whom she loved as her own son, all of Chester; four grandchildren, Brian Hatchell (Holly) of Chester, Holly Hatchell Holley (Jay) of Chester, Kara Plyler (Danny) of Chester and Katie Southerland (Jamie) of High Point, NC; nine great grandchildren, Austin Hatchell, Kyle Knox, Jayda Holley, Bree Hatchell, Jake Holley, Marley Plyler and Ethan Plyler all of Chester and Gregory Southerland and Susanna Southerland of High Point, NC; one sister, Barbara Hopper of Chester; and numerous nieces and nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law whom she loved dearly. Mrs. Hunter was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cheryll Anne Hunter and a sister, Mary Johnston. Memorials may be made to First Church of the Nazarene, 182 Pinckney St., Chester, SC 29706.
