Bobby Gene Scates

Bobby Gene Scates, 69, of Chester, died Monday, June 9, 2025, at Prisma Health in Columbia, SC. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Barron Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Shaffer officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Thursday, June 12, at Barron Funeral Home.

Mr. Scates was born on April 21, 1956, in Chester, SC and was the son of the late Jack Junior Scates and the late Gertrude Collins Scates. He was a former employee of the Eureka Mill and when that plant closed, he started work at Bell’s Body Shop and later worked at the Chester Recycle Center on Dawson Drive.

Mr. Scates is survived by his five siblings, three brothers, Tim Scates, Eddie Scates, Doug Scates and his two sisters, Sheila Aiken (Lester) and Tammy Hudson all of Chester, SC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Scates was preceded in death by a sister Vickie Flynn and a brother David Scates.

Memorials may be made to Barron Funeral Home in person at 133 Wylie St. or mailed to P.O. Box 721, Chester, SC 29706 to assist the family with expenses of funeral.
