God sent his best angel to help Varnie transition to the loving arms of Jesus, surrounded by her closest family. Born January 24, 1933, Little Varnie was born to Mr. John James and Mrs. Josephine A. Thompson. Varnie grew up in Turbeville, SC and attended the schools of Clarendon County. At age 16, with both her parents deceased, Varnie went to live with her half-sister in Chester, Mrs. Ruby James. At age 18, Varnie left the “suds in the bucket “on White Street in Chester after meeting her one and only true love, Clyde W. (CW) Hinson. They were married 40 solid years until he won his battle with lung cancer in 1991 and attained his heavenly home. Prior, they worked together at Manetta Mills and raised three children that were the light of their lives. They lived and loved in the tightly knit community of Lando, SC.
Varnie was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Clyde (CW) Hinson, one favorite brother, Mr. Raymond Uselle Thompson, one half-sister, Mrs. Ruby Uselle James and her best friend, Mrs. Doris Mosley. Varnie is survived by her eldest son, James William (JW) Hinson (Pam) of Chester and two daughters, Wanda D. Riggins (Conrad) of Lancaster and Dianne H. Johnson of Union, SC and leaves several grandchildren and precious great grandchildren, Megan, Chriss, Ashley, Nick, Levi and Layne, whom she loved dearly. Also, a plethora of loyal, Christian friends and one special neighbor friend, Ms. Morine Davis along with her infamous adopted feline, the amazing, “Chester” the Cat. Varnie loved and cared about her personal caregivers who included her daughter, Dianne, Patty Lynn Doster, Stephanie Love, Beth Fleming, Sherrie Thompson, and Billie Shirl Rucker as well as several nurses and aids of Agape Hospice. She adored Dr. Sam Stone, her long time best physician and friend. Varnie enjoyed church, family and friend get-togethers, short road trips to the mountains, beach, and cruises. She and her friend Doris were often called “road runners”. Varnie had a passion for flowers and a green thumb. A long-time member of Orrs Baptist Church, Varnie attended church until she was no longer able. She loved worshiping with friends and pastors. She enjoyed providing fresh picked or canned green beans for years for the funeral ministry at Orrs, during the Rev Curtis Marshall’s pastorate.
The family ask that memorials be made to Orrs Baptist Church, 1266 Lancaster Highway, Chester, SC 29706.
