George Rogers "Crokie" Fleming, 101, died Saturday June 14, 2025 at his home

A Funeral Service will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday June 18, 2025 at First Baptist Church, Chester with Reverend Clay Waldrip officiating. The family will receive friends also Wednesday at the church from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Crokie was born October 13, 1923 in Chester, SC and was the son of the late Adger Lee and Ethel Cloud Fleming. He was the oldest living member of First Baptist Church, Chester of 91 years, having joined the church in 1934. Crokie was a graduate of Chester High School Class of 1940 where he was a member of the Boxing Team and was Manager of the Cyclone Football team during his time as a Cyclone. Mr. Fleming was drafted into the US Army in April of 1943 and served in the Pacific Theater in World War II as an Airplane and Engine Mechanic. he was Honorably discharged from the Army in 1945. He also received the GI Bill and was afforded the opportunity to attend Clemson University and was a part of the graduating class of 1950 where he received his degree in Textiles. After a few years of working with the Springsteen Cotton Mill, he took a job with a local car dealership selling auto insurance to the clientele.

In August of 1955 Crokie was the first SC Insurance agent to sign on with a new insurance company, The Nationwide Insurance Company. he served as an Insurance Agent for over 53 years where he received many awards during his stellar career. Crokie was MOST proud to be the local Clemson IPTAY Representative and Ambassador for Chester County for over 40 years and was a proud supporter of the Clemson IPTAY Club since he graduated.

Crokie has received many awards and achieved many accomplishments throughout his life, but his greatest achievement was accepting Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior!!!!!

In addition to his parents, Crokie is preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby Cloud Fleming (1989) and Carl Ross Fleming (2008) and his sister, Doris Lee Ladd (2005).

Crokie is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
