Nan Roddey Roberts

Nan Roberts, 85, died Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Westminster Health in Rock Hill, SC. Funeral services will be provided by Barron Funeral Home at First Baptist Church in Chester, where she was a long-time member, on Tuesday, December 31. Visitation will begin at 1:00 in the vestibule, followed by the service in the chapel at 2:00, with interment thereafter at Chester Memorial Gardens. Nan was born on Father’s Day, 1939, in Chester, which is where she met Harold, her Marine. The two were married in 1958 and together raised their daughters, Cheryl and Miriam, whom she patiently instructed in the finer points of homemaking and gardening. She was a particularly accomplished seamstress, chef, baker, and an expert gardener, and through her example imparted lessons in compassion and care. She is survived by daughters Cheryl Roberts Tuttle and her husband Jon, and Miriam Roberts Melton and her husband, Eddie; by her grandchildren, Staci Wessinger Dreher, Jill Wessinger Piers and her husband DJ, Alissa Melton Berthelette and her husband Tyler, Alexander Lee Melton and his wife Madison, and Joshua Ryan Tuttle and his wife Miranda; and by great-grandchildren Noah James Dreher, Sullivan Henry Piers, and Charlotte Lynn Piers. She is survived also by sisters-in-law Melissa Roberts of Hendersonville, NC, and Nell Roddey of Blackstock, SC, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Harold G. Roberts, her mother, Irene Roddey, her father, Paul Roddey, and by her two brothers, Dale and Neil Roddey. Her family is honored to remember her as the soul of kindness whose gentle wisdom and sense of humor will remain an inspiration.
