Mrs. Leila Heath Hall Shannon, 79, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024, at her home in Rock Hill. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Purity Presbyterian Church with Reverend Jim Bankhead officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. Leila was born on April 9, 1944 at the Pryor Hospital in Chester, South Carolina where she was raised by her parents, Harold Everett Hall, Sr. and Genola Heath Hall. She was the wife of William Harvey Shannon. She is preceded in death by her parents and her daughter-in-law, Laurie Milatz Atkinson. Leila was a lifelong member of Purity Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Choir, served as both Elder and Deacon, and a member of the Robert W. Hemphill Sunday School Class. She was a fierce and competitive Bridge player having learned from her mother’s lap gaining a Masters Level in American Contract Bridge. The joys in her life included being a devoted wife and mother, gardening in her yard, traveling, and most especially being a loving and doting grandmother to her five grandchildren. Leila was active in many groups and organizations. Being an avid reader her entire life, she followed in the steps of her aunt, Aileen Hall Craig, as a member of the Palmetto Book Club. She was a founding member of the Rudy Hare Birthday Club. She was a Legacy Member of The Assembly of which her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Everett Hall, Sr., were charter members. She was also a member of the Violet Sunshine Club. Leila is survived by her Husband, William Harvey Shannon; her children, Bill and Tracy Atkinson of Henderson, North Carolina; Scott Atkinson of Chester, South Carolina; her grandchildren, Will and Taylor Atkinson of Enoree, South Carolina, Lauren Bell of Chester, South Carolina, Ellie Atkinson of Henderson, North Carolina, Benjamin Atkinson of Chester, South Carolina and Nicholas Atkinson of Chester, South Carolina. She is also survived by her brother, Harold Everett “Buzzy” Hall, Jr. of Rock Hill, South Carolina; and her nieces, Alison Harper of Bamberg, South Carolina and Leigh Anne Estes of Rock Hill, South Carolina.
