Jane Ellen Lee Cameron “What mattered most was the dash between those years.” Jane Ellen Lee Cameron certainly lived the dash between September 10, 1946 and March 30, 2024. After a diagnosis of brain cancer in November 2022, she continued to live the dash, enjoying a year of reunion visits & new experiences, until she passed peacefully at home. Born in Chester to Robert Wylie Lee, Sr. and Marion Weir Lee, she spent her childhood on the family dairy farm in Lowrys. One of the few children in the Carolinas to survive an encephalitis outbreak in 1958, Jane Ellen knew that her life was spared for a purpose. A graduate of Anderson and Winthrop Colleges, Jane Ellen pursued her passion as an educator and spent her entire career teaching middle school. It is noted that many former students attribute their cooking skills to Mrs. Cameron’s Home Ec class. Building a life in Lowrys and the Capers Chapel community with her husband, Earl, was what Jane Ellen considered a happy, successful life. She was a faithful member of Lowrys Baptist Church in her early years and then Capers Chapel Methodist Church later in life. With a heart for service, she served as church clerk and then treasurer for many years, as well as member of the Armenia Cemetery Association board. She enjoyed serving as a contest judge for Chester Soil & Water Conservation District, visiting schools to see their bulletin board creations. She volunteered with the Highland Ruritan Club in Lowrys and was known to organize many community events, including the annual Halloween Carnival & serving during the Lowrys Christmas Parade. She was a caregiver to anyone who needed her. Upon retirement from the Chester County School District, Jane Ellen turned her talent of organizational detail to assisting her lifelong friend, Ronnie Stephenson, with his family’s dairy farm. She enjoyed the outdoors, Clemson football, and napping in the sunshine. Jane Ellen was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Earl. She is survived by her daughter, Lee Cameron Petitgout (Paul) of Lowrys; her granddaughter, Courtney Lee Roland (Austin) of Chatsworth, Georgia; her brother, Bobby Lee (Kim Parkins) of Lowrys, cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM at Capers Chapel Church, 1683 Lowrys Highway, Chester, on Thursday, April 4, 2024. At Jane Ellen’s request, please plan to enjoy fellowship and pound cake at the church during visitation. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Armenia Cemetery, 2840 Armenia Road, Chester. The family will be at the Cameron home on Wednesday, April 3, from 3-7 PM and Thursday, April 4, from 10 AM - 2 PM. The family wishes to acknowledge the selfless acts of service and kindness shown to Jane Ellen during her illness of Dr. Ashley Sumrall and team, VIA Health Partners, and her caregivers, Ann, Cierra, Kelly, Rhonda, Tameka, and Zulma.
