Edward Melton " Eddie" Thomas: A loving husband, father, and a friend to everyone in Chester County. Eddie went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, SC. A funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Wilksburg Baptist Church with Reverends Skeet Thomas and Seth Johnson officiating. Interment will be held in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the committal at the graveside and other times at the home. He was born in Chester County, South Carolina on May 2, 1951,a son of the late Alvin Dean Thomas, Sr. and Janie Melton Thomas. Eddie was a member of Wilksburg Baptist Church, having served as a deacon and on the building and grounds committee, cemetery committee, pastor search committee, counting committee and Vacation Bible school. Growing up Eddie played Chester Little league baseball and Dixie Youth baseball and later coached the Chester Dixie boy’s team.As a young man, he played softball with various teams. Eddie picked up several nicknames through the years from family and friends – Sparrow, ET, Chief, and Baby Ray.When the movie “Chiefs” was being filmed in Chester he was picked off the street to be an “extra”. For thirty years he was a member of the “chain gang crew” for the Chester Cyclone football team. Eddie was a longtime member of the News & Reporter’s football pickin’ panel. Eddie retired in 2006 as the Chester County Auditor in which he was elected for three terms. He had previously worked in the Chester County Assessor’s Office and earlier in life worked for the South Carolina Highway Department.He served six years in the South Carolina National Guard. Eddie leaves behind his devoted and loving wife of forty-nine years, Linda Hinnant Thomas;two sons Brantly Edward Thomas of Sydney, Australia and Blake Justin Thomas of Indian Land, SC, two brothers Alvin Dean “Shorty” Thomas, Jr (Kathy), Roy Douglas “Doug” Thomas (Ann), a sister, Debra Thomas Hyatt, Sister-in-law Barbara Cameron (Butch) and manynieces and nephews and his buddies Gus Thomas, Grant Thomas, and Tyler Fleming. The Thomas family would like to thank everyone for their constant prayers and support throughout this journey.
