Carrol Lee Thompson

Mr. Carrol Lee Thompson, 85, died Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Rock Hill Post Acute Care.  Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Barron Funeral Home with Rev. Shannon Higgins officiating.  Interment will be private.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Sunday at Barron Funeral Home.

Born August 2, 1939 in Chester, SC, he was a son of the late Alvin C. Thompson and Josie Bailey Thompson.  He was a graduate of Chester High School and was retired co-owner and sales person for Progressive Screen Engraving in Gaffney, SC.  He also worked a number of years with Zenith Engraving in Chester, SC.  Mr. Thompson was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Chester.

At a young age, he started going to the golf course with one of his older brothers.  He loved the game and enjoyed playing until his recent illness.  He would recall caddying when he was younger at the old nine hole golf course.  He would carry two golfers’ bags and make 50 cents.  He found great joy in helping young golfers with their game.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Joyce Hudson Thompson; sons, Carrol Grier Thompson and wife, Lynne Wharton Thompson of Greenville, SC and James Alan Thompson and wife, Shannon LaRochell Thompson of Blythewood, SC; grandchildren, Aaron Thompson of Greenville, Chandler Thompson of Greenville, Sarah Grier Brumfield and husband, Peyton of Columbia; great grandson, Porter Whitfield Thompson of Greenville; one sister, Pat Johnson and husband, Mickey of Pooler, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews.  Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by sisters, Eleanor, Gertrude, Doris, Mary, Bonnie, and Earline and brothers, Earl, Henry, Raymond, Charles and Al.
