William Kelly Walters, Jr.

d. Sep 30, 2026

Chester

William Kelly Walters, Jr, known to everyone as Billy, stepped out into eternity and into the arms of his Savior on September 30, 2026. There will be a Memorial Service held at First Baptist Church in Chester on Sunday October 4, 2026. The family will receive friends and loved ones beginning at 2:30pm with the funeral services following at 4pm. Reverend Clay Waldrip and Reverend Vernon Craig will be officiating with music selections by Kristi Thomas, Mike Shaffer, and Billy’s granddaughters Chayse and Edeigh Walters.

Billy was born on May 14, 1953 in Lancaster to the late William “Kelly” Walters and Alma Walters. He moved to Chester in 1958 at the age 5. Billy graduated from Chester Senior High School in 1971 where he was a member of the marching band. In 1973 he met the love of his life Kathy Watts. The two were married in 1974 and have celebrated 51 years of marriage. They have 2 children Allyson and Josh (Jenn) and 3 grandchildren: Chayse, Edeigh, and Landry.

Billy was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a Lead Water and Wastewater Operator for a combined 42 years with Cone Mills, ALVAC, and Spartanburg Water System before retiring in 2018. He was also a Master Craftsman/Woodworker making everything from furniture to cherished jewelry boxes. He was an avid motorcyclist for years completing a couple different Iron Butt rides. But most of all he was a loving husband, father, and PawPaw. He loved spending time with his family doing what they loved whether it be softball, fishing, hunting, or driving through the mountains. He enjoyed trips to Dillon to see his granddaughters participate in volleyball, softball, dance, and cheer. He loved his church and church family. Growing up at Westside Baptist Church, he would later serve as a youth leader and deacon. He later joined First Baptist Church with his wife Kathy and daughter Allyson.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Kelly and Alma Walters, as well as his brother Donald Walters.
