Mr. William Robinson Bennett, 85, of 820 Pinckney Road, died Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the Chester Regional Nursing Center A graveside will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Armenia United Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Harry Gindhart and Dr. Dwight Pearson officiating. Born on July 15, 1924 in Chester, SC, Mr. Bennett was the son of the late John Lawrence Bennett and Daisy Robinson Bennett. He was a graduate of Chester High School Class of 1941 and was a World War II Veteran having served in the Pacific Theater. He was aboard the USS Houston when it was torpedoed on October 14, 1944.After the war he began his career in the printing industry firstworking withThe Chester News and Reporter for 20 years and later the Herald for 18 years from which he retired. Mr. Bennett was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and was active in the USS Houston Association. He was the widower of Ruth Grant Bennett. Surviving is a son, Jeffery Lee Bennett of Chester, SC, one brother, Robert Wylie (Bob) Bennett of Chester, one sister, Dorothy Bennett Price of Chester, SC, three nieces, Gina Price White, Glinda Price Coleman and Donna Bennett Jordon, all of Chester and a number of great nieces nephews.
