William O'Neal Mckeown

Blackstock, SC Mr. William O’Neal McKeown, Jr, 87, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at his residence.The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Cornwell Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tim Foster and Rev. Jesse Hegler officiating.The interment will be in the McKeown Family Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the fellowship hall of the church. Born in the Cornwell Community of Chester County on July 9, 1925, Mr. McKeown was the son of the late William O. McKeown, Sr. and Edna Feemster McKeown.He was a graduate of Chester High School, and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina, and his Masters of Education from Converse College.He was a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII as a gunnery instructor.He was a retired high school chemistry teacher having taught in Kings Mountain, NC, Rock Hill, Sumter and Lancaster, SC and later moved into administration.After his retirement, he continued to operate McKeown’s Store, a continuation of the business started by his great grandfather, Washington O’Neal McKeown, until it was closed in the mid 80’s. His passions, other than teaching, were music, voice, art & antiques.Mr. McKeown was a member of Cornwell Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder. He is survived by his caretaker Louis Lockett of Chester and numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister Lucy McKeown Titus.
