CHESTER, SC Mr. William Paul “Dub” Johnson, 82, died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at his residence.A memorial service will be held 2:00 Wedneday, March 13, 2013 at Chester First Baptist Church with Rev. Clay Waldrip officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm in the Foyer ofChester First Baptist Church. Born November 29, 1930 in Greenwood, South Carolina, Mr. Johnson was a son of the late Francis Paul Johnson and Sally Chappell Johnson.He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and attended Spartanburg Jr. College.He a was a veteran of the US Marines having served during the Korean Conflict where he was the recipient of a purple heart.He was owner of Sportswear Manufacturing Plants in Chester. Mr. Johnson was honored as Civitan Citizen of the Year in 1968 and was former President of the Dixie Youth Baseball Leaque.He was also founder of the Men’s Breakfast Club that meets currently meets at local churches.He was an avid Clemson fan having never missed a home game in over forty years and a member of the Chester Masonic Lodge #18 and Hejaz Shrine Temple. He is survived by his wife Eloise Scoggins Johnson; one son, Tony Johnson of Chester, SC; one daughter, Susan J. Lawrence and her husband Sam of Tega Cay, SC; two grandchildren, Michael Johnson and Amanada Johnson and two sisters, Eleanor Buchannan of Anderson, SC and Virginia Sprouse of Auburn, Alabama.
