William Ross "Billy" Green

CHESTER, SC:Mr. William Ross “Billy” Green, Sr., 91, went to be with his Lord Sunday, January 7, 2018 at his home.A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Saluda Street Church of God with Rev. Scott Vaughn officiating.The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Saluda Street Church of God.The interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Born January 6, 1927 in Chester, SC, Mr. Green was the son of the late Walter L. and Maybelle Dereberry Green.He attended the schools of Chester County and was veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII.He was retired from Atlantic Coast Life Insurance Company as District Manager.He was the oldest living member of Saluda Street Church of God where he was Deacon, taught Sunday school, sang with the Tonesman Quartet and took part in many other activities with the church. He is survived by his wife of over sixty-eight years, Freida Stewart Green; one son, William R. “Chip” Green, Jr.,one daughter, Rita G. Steele of Rock Hill, SC; son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Russel and Linda Ivey; two grandchildren, Bridget Cameron (Billy) of Chester, SC and Kristropher Robinson (Patty) of San Antonio, TX; three great-grandchildren, Bailey Beasley (Fiance’ Tori Brantley), Brilee Beasley and Adam Beasley all of Chester, SC and cousins with whom he was reared, Betty Rice and Hazel Noman of Chester, SC. He was preceded in death by son-in-law Melvin Steel and four cousins with whom he was reared, Helen Sawyer, Bill Jordan, Buck Jordan and Barbara Ann Greenwood. Billy was also preceded in death by his Uncle George Jordan and Aunt Ruth Jordan whom he was reared by along with his mother.
