William David Black, Jr., 66, died Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital.  Service arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date.

Born September 24, 1959 in Long Beach, CA, he was a son of the late William David Black, Sr. and Ruby Melton Middleton.  David was a graduate of Chester High School and a gospel minister.  He hosted the radio program, Harvest Time Ministries.  David enjoyed providing for the needs of the folks in the NC mountains of Avery County and surrounding areas.  He was the founder of Harvest Time Thrift Store on Saluda St. in Chester.

He is survived by five children, Melinda Backstrom (John) of Lincolnton, NC, Heather Arnett (Nathaniel Hope) of Chester, SC, James Hinson (Ashley) of Lockhart, SC, Dorothy Black of Lockhart, SC and Ruby Lightner (Allen) of Lockhart, SC; 14 grandchildren, Ariel, Bethany, John, Christopher, Jeremiah, Kayley, Allen, Skylyn, Grace, Zayden, Sofie, Amariona, Mercy and Mylo; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Kathy Castles of Rock Hill, SC and Shirley Roberts (Mickey) of Chester, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews and his ex-wife, Loretta Black.  In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his son, William David Black, II.
