Walterboro, SC Mr. Walter Thomas Wood, Sr., 86, died Monday, November 26, 2018.Interment will take place at 10:30 AM Thursday, November 29, 2018, at Union ARP Church cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of Union ARP Church with Rev. Watson Gunderson and Rev. Jerry Wells officiating.The family will receive friends in the social hall of the church immediately following the Celebration of Life service. Mr. Wood was born August 24, 1932 in Richmond, Virginia and was the son of the late Herbert A. Wood and Katherine Toddy Wood.He was a graduate of Mars Hill College and attended the University of Richmond. During his college years, he was a member of Phi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and a baseball player.Mr. Wood was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Airborne and Pathfinder units.He retired from The Associates after a 25 year career.Mr. Wood was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC.He traveled extensively during his career and remained active in the church wherever he resided. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Grace Reid Wood; twin children, Terrilyn Grace Wood Hensley (Craig) of Columbia, SC and Walter Thomas “Tom” Wood, Jr. (Susan) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Whit Hensley, Grant Hensley and Lilly Hensley all of Columbia, Catherine Wood of Charlotte and Emily Wood of Columbia; and a brother-in-law, Lee Southard of Ft. Myers, Fl. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Southard.
