Virgil Essery "Buddy" Vess

CHESTER: Mr. Virgil Essery “Buddy” Vess, Jr, 84, died Monday, October 27, 2014 at his home.The funeral service will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Westside Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Fowler officiating.The interment will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Barron Funeral Home. Born March 9, 1930 in Asheville, NC, Mr. Vess was a son of the late Virgil E. Vess, Sr and Jewel Yolanda Flynn Vess.He attended the schools of Chester County and was former owner and operator of Chester Western Auto.He was also employed with Barnyard Utilities , Chester County Recycling Center, Southstate Chevrolet, Gene Rachels Chevrolet/Oldsmobile and Gwinn/Weir Ford.He was retired from the South Carolina National Guard.Mr. Vess was a member of Westside Baptist Church and Chester Masonic Lodge #18. He was former founding member of Parkway Baptist Church.Mr. Vess was preceded in death by his wife Tracey DuBose Vess and one brother, Jack Vess. He is survived by two daughters, Beverly Winchester (Joel) of Chester and Suzanne Roderick (Jeremy) of Rock Hill; one son, Buddy D. Vess of Rock Hill; one step-son, Daryl Boyd of Rock Hill, SC and one step-daughter, Denna Robinson of Chester; eight grandchildren, Melissa (D.J.), Kristen (Jason), Megan, Alyssa, Andrew, Trevor, Darren (Jennifer) and Jerri Lynn (Jamie); twelve great grandchildren; one brother, Albert Vess (Martha) of Chester.
