Mr. Thomas Carisle McCrorey passed away on December 23, 2012 at Harbor Chase Assisted Living in Rock Hill. A service to celebrate his life will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church, Chester, SC at 11:00 am on Thursday, December, 272012 with Rev. Allen Wolfe officiating. The family will receive friends at 10:00 amto 11:00 am on December 27, 2012 at the back of the sanctuary. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens in Chester, SC. Mr. McCrorey was born in Richburg, a son of the late Mary Elizabeth McGarity McCrorey and Samuel James McCrorey. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant in the United States Army in the Philippines and Okinawa.Mr. McCrorey was employed as the Chester County Executive Director of ASCS for 46 years. During his employment with ASCS, he was elected President of the state association (SCASCOE) and was a delegate to several national association meetings (NASCOE) and was honored by NASCOE in 1981 as their national Distinguished Service Award winner for service to community. As a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Chester since 1950, Mr. McCrorey served the church numerous capacities including church Treasurer, elementary Sunday School teacher, laity delegate to the state annual United Methodist Conference, and President, officer, or member of numerous church committees. He was also a member and past-President of the Adult Fellowship class. Mr. McCrorey was active in community service throughout his adult life. He was a charter member of the Chester Civitan Club, serving the club in many offices includingPresident. He was a 60 year plus member of the Richburg Masonic Lodge. While a familiar presence in many civic and community organizations, Mr. McCrorey most enjoyed his role for 25 years as the living representation of the spirit of Santa Claus at local community events and parades. During, retirement, he stayed active through participation in the Senior Olympics and was the recipient of numerous gold medals for the South Carolina state games andtwo silver medals at the National Senior Olympics. Mr. McCrorey was survived by his daughter, Dr. Carol Anne McNellis, and her husband, Thomas McNellis, of West Chester, PA and grandson, Ryan McNellis, of Princeton University. Mr. McCrorey is also survived by one sister, Pauline Gladden of Richburg. He waspreceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Carol Rawls McCrorey of over sixty-one years, granddaughter Lauren Alexis McNellis, and brothers Blair McCrorey, James Madison McCrorey, John Boyd McCrorey, and sister Mary Davis Blanks.
