Thomas Monroe Mayer

CHESTER: Mr. Thomas M. Mayer, 59, died on Thursday, July 17, 2014.A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 atEvergreen Cemetery in Chester with Reverend Clay Waldrip officiating. Mr. Mayer was born August 11, 1954 in Bismarck, ND and was the son of the late Theodore Mayer and Wilma Allen Mayer.He was a graduate ofNorthwestern High School in Hyattsville, MD.He was employed for many yearsby the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington, D.C. When he retired, he returned to Chester to be with family and friends.He enjoyed sports and was an avid and long-time fan of the Washington Redskins football team. Mr. Mayer is survived by two sisters, Nancy Babits, and her husband Larry, of Greenville, NC and Margaret Evans, and her husband Gary, of Columbia, SC; two nephews, John Babits of Greenville, NC and Kyle Evans of Columbia, SC; and one niece, Emily Gossett of Columbia, SC, and a great-niece, Abigail Grace Gossett.He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Mayer; his mother, Wilma Mayer; and his sister, Melissa Thompson. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks toRev. Clay Waldrip for his caring help and support. Mr. Mayer loved animals and the family welcomes donations to Friends of the Animals at 106 Walker Street in Chester, SC.
