The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on January 20, 2025 at Wilksburg Baptist Church with C.E. Taylor officiating. Family also receiving visitors at the home.
Affectionately known as “Rawlsy,” “T,” and to his family as “Diddy” and “Paw Paw,” Terry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Renee (Taylor) Rawls, mother-in-law, Frances Taylor, sisters-in-law, Sheri Brown (Scott), Diane Rawls and Elanie Rawls; daughters, Amanda McDonnell (Rudy) and Ashley Kittle (Jim); granddaughters, Brianna Rawls (Ryan Michalske), Lona Kittle and Maddie McDonnell; and grandson, James Kittle. Terry is also survived by his brother Wayne Rawls (Pam) and his nephews, Jonathan Rawls, Matthew Rawls, Daniel Rawls, Jay Rawls, and Dr. Andrew Brown, along with their families. He is also survived by his beloved niece, Shelia Rawls-Beamer, other extended family members, and his dear friends Rick and Kelli Wessinger.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Thomas Rawls and Mildred Rawls, as well as his siblings, Thomas Rawls, Charles Rawls, James Rawls, and Mary Rawls Orr; father-in-law, John Taylor and niece, Tammy Rawls.
Born and raised in a faith-filled home, Terry’s childhood was marked by his love for the outdoors, attending his father’s sermons, participating in Boy Scouts, and playing the cornet in the school band. He graduated from Chester High School in 1975 and went on to attend Spartanburg Methodist College, where he developed a love for skiing and lifelong friendships through his fraternity. He later earned his BS degree from Winthrop University in 1978.
A hardworking and dedicated provider, Terry worked as a plant manager at Essex until 2007. He then returned to school to study carpentry and became a Supervisor at VC Summer, where he worked until his retirement in 2023.
Terry’s passion for the outdoors and the Carolina Gamecocks was matched only by his love for his family. He enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing and playing volleyball, but the greatest joy in his life came from spending time with his ever-growing family. A beloved jokester, Terry’s quick wit, sarcasm, and sense of humor made him the life of any gathering. His family often affectionately referred to him as a “trickster” due to his playful nature and his uncanny ability to make everyone laugh. He was an undefeated champion at Rummy and Phase 10, always sporting an unbeatable poker face. His famous cornbread will forever be remembered, just as his infectious laugh and warm spirit will stay in the hearts of those who loved him.
Terry’s spirit, laughter, and presence will be dearly missed, but his legacy of love, humor, and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
