Sybil Whitfield Hardee

September 16, 1941 — February 14, 2021

Chester Mrs. Sybil Whitfield Hardee, 79, died Sunday, February 14, 2021, at Atrium Health-Pineville.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, February 19, 2021, at First Baptist Church of Chester with Rev. Clay Waldrip officiating.Interment will follow at 3:00 PM Friday at Townville Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 9001 SC Hwy. 24, Townville, SC.The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service. Mrs. Hardee was born September 16, 1941 in Townville, SC and was a daughter of the late James Oliver Whitfield and Louise Whitfield.She was a graduate of Townville High School where she was an All-State basketball player and drove a school bus.She was also a graduate of Forrest Junior College in Anderson, SC.Sybil served as an Administrative Assistant with SC Guardian Ad Litem for 15 years.She was a member of First Baptist Church of Chester, where she was a former Sunday School teacher and on the Lord’s Supper Committee.Sybil was a member of the Eastern Star Townville, SC Chapter. Sybil was completely devoted to her family, as they were to her. Her nephew summed her up perfectly:“kind, humble, respectful, loving, and everything a lady should be”.She never missed an event her daughter had or the chance to take care of her grandsons. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends.Christmases were filled with baking special treats, with some waiting all year for chocolate peanut butter balls and pecan pies.Her daughter’s heart birthday cakes were very special.If she knew you, she would send you a card for any of life’s events.Since Sybil grew up in the shadow of Clemson University and married a Tiger, she was an “All In” Clemson fan and loved tailgating at Homecoming with her sisters and nephews.After retirement, she also enjoyed traveling with her husband all over the country.She was a special person and will be forever missed. She is waiting in heaven for her husband of over 52 years, William Phillip “Phil” Hardee; one daughter, Renee Hardee Jackson (Troy) of Rock Hill; two grandchildren, Benjamin “Tyler” and James “Justin” Jackson of Rock Hill; two sisters, Nell Whitfield Poore of Greenwood, SC and Joyce Whitfield Davis of Townville, SC; and a niece and many nephews.She was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Whitfield Critser. Sybil’s family is eternally grateful to the UNC Pulmonary Clinic, which gave her excellent treatment and many more years to spend with her family and friends.
