Susan Shugart Owens

Susan Shugart Owens, 67, of Southern Pines, NC, died Sunday, April 16, 2023, at HarborChase of Rock Hill after an extended illness. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 22, at 11 am at Armenia United Methodist Church, Chester, with Dr. Steve Shugart officiating. The family will receive friends in the social hall of the church immediately following the service. Susan was born in Chester, SC on October 17, 1955 to the late Henry Lester and Genevieve Misenheimer Shugart. A 1973 graduate of Chester High School, Susan spent many years working as an administrative professional and was an avid supporter of her husband’s financial planning firm, Owens and Associates of Southern Pines. Susan grew up in Bethel United Methodist Church where she was baptized and confirmed. She was an active part of Grace Church in Southern Pines where she participated in Women’s Small Group and volunteered in the Guest Services ministry. Susan had a deep love for all animals, and every pet she adopted from the shelter was indeed lucky! In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by a nephew, Jason Shugart, and her beloved husband of 45 years, Terry Lee Owens. She is survived by her brothers Les Shugart and his wife Debbie, and Steve Shugart and his wife Sue; brother-in-law Tony Owens; nieces Leslie Willis (Jason), Shannon Farr (Matt ), Ginny Lynn Brown (Kevin) and Anna Grace Willimon (Taylor); nephews Jonathan Shugart (Casey), Will Shugart (Natalie) and Grant Shugart (Jenny); and 4 great-nieces and 3 great-nephews.
