Susan Lutz Stephenson

Mrs. Susan Jeanette Lutz Stephenson, 74, died Thursday, December 28, 2023 at her home. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Capers Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. James Curran and Artimio Garcia officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends also Tuesday at the church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The family would also like to invite everyone attending the service to join them for finger food immediately following the service. Mrs. Stephenson was born May 2, 1949 in Chester, SC and was a daughter of the late James Gordon Lutz Sr. and Dorothy Mae Pearson Lutz. She was a 1967 graduate of Chester High School and a 1970 graduate of Winthrop College. Susan was retired from Chester County School District as a mathematics teacher and taught at Hawthorne Christian Academy. She enjoyed tutoring and mentoring students throughout her years outside of the classroom and was actively involved in a leadership role with the BETA club and numerous other organizations mentoring students. Susan also took an active role in the family dairy business as she worked alongside her husband Ronnie with daily operations and was an active director and officer of the Lutz foundation and a family advisor. She was a member of Capers Chapel Methodist Church and earlier in her life, she was an active member of Lowrys Baptist Church and First Baptist Church. She is survived by two children, Ronald Hennies “Ron” Stephenson, Jr. (Teri) of Chester, SC, Mary Jo Stephenson Jolley (Andy) of Chester, SC; grandchildren, Amanda Stephenson, Christa Stephenson, Elizabeth Jolley and Garrett Jolley; one great-granddaughter, McKenzie Stephenson; sister, Joan Guyton (Dewey) of Chester, SC and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of over 54 years Ronnie Stephenson Sr. her brother, James Gordon, Jr. and her sister, Mary Alyce Lutz Hargett. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the following caregivers for Susan, Dr. Sam Stone, Ann Cornwell, Katherine Harris, Tamera Johnson, Gloria Garcia, Chelsea Preston and Carolina Community Care.
