CHESTER, SC: Mr. Sterling Alexander “Alex” Boyd, 95 died Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Providence Hospital in Columbia, SC.The funeral service will be 12:00 Noon Monday, September 3, 2018 at Barron Funeral Home with Reverend Michael Shaffer officiating.The interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon Monday September 3, 2018 at Barron Funeral Home. Born October 26, 1922 in Chester County, SC, Mr. Boyd was a son of the late James Thompson Boyd, Sr. and Celeste McKeown Boyd.He was a graduate of Chester High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force having served during WWII and was also a retired Postmaster. He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church where he formerly served as Senior Warden and was a former member of Cornwell Presbyterian Church.He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (Lily) Gilpin Boyd, a brother, James T. Boyd, Jr and two sisters Martha Boyd and Carolyn B. McKinney. Mr. Boyd is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 41, Chester, SC 29706.
