Sonny Thornton

Lowry?s, SC- ---Mr. Floyd Andrew ?Sonny? Thornton, 79, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Chester Regional Medical Center. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, August 21, 2010 at First Baptist Church, Lowry?s with Reverend Michael Shaffer officiating. Interment will be held in Zion Cemetery. Born in Gastonia, NC on April 14, 1931, Mr. Thornton was a son of the late Jessie W. Thornton and Mattie Belle Hall Thornton. He was a graduate of Chester High School and a member of First Baptist Church Lowry?s. Mr. Thornton was a retired Tech Sergeant with the US Air Force having served in Thailand during the Korean War and also in Vietnam. He was also retired from Darby?s Store after twenty years service. Sonny was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by all of his friends. Mr. Thornton is survived by; two brothers, Donald Thornton of Indian Trail, NC and Glenn Thornton of Wingate, NC; three sisters, Martha Frances Nelson of Wingate, NC, Linda Cagle of Belmont, NC and Sandra Hileman of Charlotte, NC and several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William W. Thornton and Franklin Delano Thornton and one sister, Patricia Thornton Blakemore The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Lowry?s Fellowship Hall on Saturday, August 21, 2010 Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Lowry?s, 3981 Armenia Road, Chester, SC 29706.
