Sherri Kalita, 54, of Chester, passed away from sepsis on Sunday, August 16, 2026, while courageously fighting cancer. She wasn't ready to give up the fight but sepsis ultimately took that choice from her. True to the Trenton girl she had always been, she fought fiercely for every day she could have with the people she loved.
Born November 14, 1971 in Trenton, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Charles Wilke and Carol Fraser Wilke. She worked for 17 years at St. James Catholic Church in Woodbridge before retiring and moving to South Carolina. Sherri loved to travel, especially to her island home of Jamaica and found peace at the beach - preferably under a palm tree - or by a quiet lake. She had a rare gift for listening and touching the lives of those around her. Friends often said he made them feel truly heard. Sherri loved with her whole heart and showed it every day through her actions. She loved her grandchildren deeply.
She is survived by her loving husband, Matthew; her daughter, Ashley Maggi (Justin); her son, Matthew, Jr.; granddaughters, Zaniyah and Mereya; her brother, Neil; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved her dearly. In addition to her parents, Sherri was preceded in death by her brother, Eddie Amenta.
Per her request, no formal services will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
