CHESTER: The funeral for Mrs. Sarah Page Holliday of Chester, a retired teacher who taught in York, Chester, and Newberry counties, will be conducted Saturday, February 14th, at 3:00 at the First Baptist Church of Chester with the Rev. Clay Waldrip officiating.The family will receive friends at 2:00 P.M. Saturdayat BarronFuneral Home, 133 Wylie Street, Chester.Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Holliday, 87, passed away Wednesday, February 11th at White Oak Estates in Spartanburg, SC after several years of declining health. Born in Chester on April 9, 1921, she was the daughter of the late William David and Willie Mae Ford Page and the wife of the late Francis Grissette Holliday, Jr., former Chester City and County Attorney. Mrs. Holliday was a graduate of Chester High School, and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Coker College where she was honored with awards and scholarships for her achievements in academics, music, dance, and art.She earned a Masters Degree in Education and Library Science from Winthrop University and completed additional graduate studies at the University of South Carolina and Columbia College.She achieved S.C. State Board Certification for Teachers in the areas of Media Specialist, Elementary Education, Social Studies, Special Education for the Mentally Retarded, and Special Education for the Trainable Mentally Retarded. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school and Bible school teacher, and was a member of the Chancel Choir, Senior Adult Choir, and the Sacred Community Chorus.She was also a member of the Gleaner?s Sunday School Class and the Senior Adult Group. She was a charter member of the Dogwood Garden Club, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Chester Music Club, Chester County Historical Association, and Leroy Springs Adult Senior Club. She is survived by a sister, Mary Page Killian ofWestminster Towers, Rock Hill, SC; two daughters and their husbands, Sarah Anne Holliday Waters and James Brice Waters of Spartanburg, SC and Mary Ellen Holliday Thomas and Ronald Hennis Thomas of Cornelius, NC; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Page Baulknight of Chester.
