Mr. Samuel Henry Guza, III died Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Westminster Towers Health Care in Rock Hill, SC.A graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Trey Hegar officiating.The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service at the home, 135 York Street, Chester, SC 29706. Born July 26, 1939 in Richmond, Virginia, Mr. Guza was the son of the late Samuel Henry Guza, Jr and Gladys Banks Guza. He was educated in Richmond public schools and Hermitage High School. He also attended Virginia Tech and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University. He was married to the former Margaret Wise Knox “Deedie” Guza.They are the parents of Samuel Blair Guza and his wife Susan of Mooresville, NC; Jonathan Henry Guza of Burlington, NC and Zachary James Guza and his wife Jennifer of Knoxville, TN and four grandchildren, Margaret Blair Guza, Abigail Catherine Guza and twins, Brice Olsen and Blair Henry Guza. Mr. Guza worked many years for Kearney Aluminum Street Lighting in Abingdon, VA and Atlanta, GA and for Ingersoll Rand Coal Mining Machinery in Abingdon, VA and New Jersey.He was founder and general manager of The Office Place office supply in Abingdon, VA where he delighted in the practice of humorous signage.He had been the publicist for Barter Theatre and was in demand as an emcee for various events such as Rotary Frolics.Sam was one of a group that owned and operated the Martha Washington Inn in Abingdon, VA.He was active in community and church in Chester, SC and Abingdon, VA.He served as an elder at Purity Presbyterian Church in Chester and Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church in Abingdon.He was a former member of Rotary Clubs in Chester and Abingdon and the Chester Builders Association, and The Assembly. After retiring to Chester, Sam loved playing golf and fishing with friends and traveling as a “roadie” with Purity Bells. In his last years, Sam struggled with Parkinson’s Disease.The family thanks the members of the staff of Westminster Health Care and interim Hospice for their extraordinary and compassionate care during his illness.
