Samuel Belton Bridges

Chester Mr. Samuel Belton Bridges, 83, died Friday, December 28, 2018, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Chester Memorial Gardens with Rev. Don Etters officiating. Interment will follow in Chester Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside. Mr. Bridges was born December 18, 1935 in Chester, SC and was a son of the late George ” Cope” Bridges and Sallie Marsh Bridges. Hegraduated from Chester High School , Duke University and Wofford College. He was co-owner of People’s Furniture in Chester, SC and he worked for United Insurance Company of America, Chester County Recycling Center, and was a mathematics high school teacher. Sam held a Master of Divinity from Duke University. Sam was an avid Ham Radio Operator and a member of the CARES CLUB (Chester Amateur Radio Emergency Service) His call sign was KJ4ZM. He is survived by one brother Walker Bridges ( Sandra) of Chester, SC; one Sister, Mae Lee Miller of Summerville, SC; four nieces, Leslie Ford (John) of Chester, SC, Becky Greene (Dub) of N. Charleston, SC, Jan Boyd (Bobby) of Blackstock, SC, Sally Miller of Mendocino, CA; other nieces and nephews; a friend that he loved as a son, Tommy Williams. Mr. Bridges was preceded in death by his first wife Lenny Bridges; and his second wife of over 30 years Mary Alice “Tabbie” Castles Bridges, one brother George Bridges.
