Mr. Rudolph Christopher Chappell, 83, died Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Chester Regional Nursing Center.A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, November 19, 2010 at Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Fred Griffie officiating.The family will receive friends anytime at the home, 1506 Mayhugh Road, Chester. Born March 10, 1927 in York County, Mr. Chappell was a son of the late John Henry and Eva Porter Chappell.He attended the schools of York and Chester County and was a farmer and a retired mechanic from Seaboard Coastline Railroad.He was a member of Uriel Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of over sixty-three years, Betty Pethel Chappell; one son, Rudolph Chappell, II of Chester; two daughters, Rudye Alt and her husband John of Ricbhurg, SC and Sandra Dorsey and her husband Max of Chester, SC; eight grandchildren, Wilson Alt, Adrian Alt, Jason Alt, Jennifer Kelly, Alex Dorsey, Andrew Dorsey, Jennifer Shannon and Max Dorsey II; six great grandchildren, Emma Dorsey, John Hampton Dorsey, Ellea Shannon, Ethan Alt, Lila and Emma Kelly; two brothers, Curwood Chappell of Rock Hill and Melton Chappell of Vista, CA; one sister, Joyce Abbott of Darlington, SC.Mr. Chappell was preceded in death by an infant daughter and five brothers, Jack, Phil, Pete, Bill and Booney Chappell.
