It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Michael “Mike” Layton, age 70, of Chester, who passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025.
Born on June 6, 1955, Mike was a lifelong resident of Chester and a proud graduate of Chester High School. Throughout his life, he worked in maintenance at many plants in the area, where he was known for his dedication, skill, and reliability. Later in life, he finally retired as the owner of The Fishing Supply in Chester, where he shared his love of hunting, fishing, the outdoors, his easygoing spirit, and his friendship with everyone who came through the door.
Mike is survived by his faithful wife of 51 years, Debi Layton; his loving son, Robert Michael Layton II (Anita); and countless friends and brothers by choice who will cherish his memory and the impact he had on their lives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Harold Layton; his mother, Evelyn Colvin Layton; and his brother, Thomas Colvin Layton.
A service celebrating Mike’s life will be held on Friday, November 14, at 3:00 p.m. at Barron’s Funeral Home in Chester. The family will receive visitors during the hour following the service.
Mike will be remembered for his loyalty, his hard work, his sense of humor, his devotion to the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, and his steadfast love for his family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
