CHESTER, SC: Mr. Robert O’Neal Gaston, 89, died Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Agape Rehab Post Acute Care Center in Rock Hill, SC.The funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church with Rev. Larry Parsons and Rev. John Porter officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 Friday, February 20, 2015 at Barron Funeral Home.The interment will be in the church cemetery. Born December 2, 1925 in Chester County, South Carolina, Mr. Gaston was a son of the late John Holmes Gaston and Essie Maude Clark Gaston.He was a graduate of the schools of Chester County, retired from Springs Industries and also a farmer and a carpenter.He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during WWII.Mr. Gaston was a member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder, Sunday School Teacher and actively involved in the fund raisers of the church.He was a member of the Chester Masonic Lodge #18 and Hejaz Shrine Temple.Mr. Gaston enjoyed as his hobbies hunting, fishing, and baking and delivering cakes. He is survived by his wife of over thirty-seven years, Dorothy Leonard Gaston; two daughters, Susan Roof (Bob) of Chester and Cathy Wishert (Albert) of Carlisle, SC; one son, Tim Gaston (Cindy) of Union, SC; one step-son, Ron Bell (Lisa) of Gastonia, NC; one step-daughter, Rhonda White of Chester; thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by two children, Robert Stanley Gaston and Barbara Karen Gaston; six brothers, one sister and one granddaughter.
