Chester, Mr. Robert D. McKay, Jr., 53, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 8, 2010 after a lengthy battle from ALS Disease (better known as Lou Gehrig Disease). A celebration of life will be held at 3:00pm, Sunday, April 11, 2010 at The First Baptist Church Chester with Reverend Mark Chapman officiating and Rev. David Sealy assisting. Born July 23, 1957 in Chester, he was the son of Robert D. McKay, Sr. and the late Joyce Black McKay.He was a graduate of Chester High School and attended York Tech College.He was an avid outdoorsman and loved youth sports.As a Dixie Youth Baseball coach for more than 20 years he dedicated his time to helping youth improve their skills of the sport. Rob was a member of Westside Baptist Church.He was retired from SCDOT-Electrical Dept and Triplett-King Associates as a bridge inspector. Surviving are his wife and caregiver, Cathy Brown McKay of Chester, a son, James R. ?Bo? McKay of Greenville, SC, a sister, Joy M. Fleming and husband Ken of Chester, Jonathan Rawls who was like a son and his cat ?Rascal?. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00P.M. Saturday April 10, 2010 at Barron Funeral Home.
