After a long, healthy life and a quick decline following an unfortunate fall, Rita White, long time resident of Chester, SC died at age 95 on December 4, 2018.The Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, SC provided her care for a very peaceful death.Rita was born in Stephenville, Newfoundland, Canada on November 19, 1923 to John and Claira White.Rita had a short, paid career in the laundry at Harmon Air Force Base in Stephenville where she met her future husband, Clyde. This started her long career of wife and mother.Rita and Clyde were happily devoted to each other for 57 years of marriage.Rita was also a devoted Catholic her entire life, her faith being an important part of her.Those who knew and loved her remember Rita for her sense of humor and fun-loving spirit.Rita could be a real jokester.She was a competitive card player and enjoyed this activity with her family in Newfoundland, whom she visited often throughout the years.She loved flowers and walks outside.At one point in her life Rita had dozens of rose bushes in her front yard, including many hybrid varieties of special beauty. Rita is survived by and will be greatly missed by her four daughters: Karen Hutto (Terry); Debbie Fougerousse; Belinda Roddey (Bob), all of Chester; Tammy White (Steve Boyce) of Clover.Her 11 grandchildren will also fondly remember their grandmother.Rita was a baby-sitter for many of her grandchildren and all of them spent much time playing at the farm and laughing with their Grammy.She was blessed to have 18 great-grandchildren, many of whom are old enough to have sweet memories of “Great-Grammy”.Rita will also be remembered by her sister, Frances Fazenbaker and numerous nieces and nephews, many of whom still live in Canada. Rita was predeceased by her husband Clyde (2000) and 5 siblings: Matthew, Jean, Wilfred, Hubert and Allan. A visitation will be held for Rita at Barron Funeral Home on Thursday, December 6, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a rosary service at 7 p.m. at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie Street, Chester, SC. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in memory of Rita on Friday, December 7 at 1:00 p.m., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 110 West End Street.A reception will follow the ceremony in the church reception hall. At a later date Rita’s ashes will be laid to rest, along with Clyde’s, at The Oratory of Rock Hill.
