Ray Stillwell

Chester, SC:Hollon Ray Stillwell, 84, died Friday, March 1, 2013 at Brian Center Health and Retirement/Lincolnton, NC. A funeral service will be held, 3:00 PM Sunday, March 3, 2013 at First Baptist Church, Lowrys with Reverend Michael Shaffer officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Gaddy Room.Intermentwill be private. Mr. Stillwell was born in Mecklenberg County, N.C. on September 12, 1928. He was a son of the late Hollon Stillwell and Susie Lee Barkley Stillwell.He attended the schools of Mecklenberg County, NC and was a member of First Baptist Church, Lowrys where he was a Sunday School teacher and Deacon. Mr. Stillwell was extremely proud of his military service having served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Hawaii and the Enewetak Islands where he was involved in nuclear testing. Mr. Stillwell was retired as an aircraft mechanic having worked at Bradford Airfield and Douglas Airport He is survived by his wife of over thirty-eight years, Kathleen McGaha Stillwell; two sons, Joe Stillwell (Susan) of Chester, SC and Frank Stillwell(Sharon) of Cherryville, N.C.; one daughter, Cynthia S. Cruickshank (Doug) of Chester, SC; seven grandchildren, Shannon, Christy, Julie, Jennifer, Jake, Jason and Holly; thirteen great- grandchildren and a brother, Tommy Stillwell of Greenville, SC.
