Mr. Ralph Thomas Chesney, 86 died Monday, August 27, 2012 at Uni Health in Rock Hill. The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Lowrys First Baptist Church with his friend Mr. Mac Stewart and Rev. Bob Finley officiating. The interment will be in Lakeview Memory Gardens in Filbert, SC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Barron Funeral Home. Born July 5, 1926 in Gaston County, NC, Mr. Chesney was a son of the late William Lee Chesney and Pearl Sawyer Chesney. He attended the schools of Gaston County and was retired from Caroknit of Gastonia. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War. He was a member of Lowrys First Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher for over thirty years and was a Deacon. He is survived by one step-son A.B. “Buddy” Courtney and his wife Frieda of Lowrys; one brother, Dan Chesney of Gastonia, NC; one sister, Rose Kirk of Gastonia, NC; a special friend Betty Ashe of McConnells, SC; three step granddaughters and five step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers. Mr. Chesney was twice married. He was first married to Elsie Farris, who died in 1973 and he later married Annie Gaddy Courtney who died in 2004.
