Shelby, NC: Reverend Oscar Wiston Burdette, Jr., 84, formerly of Chester,died Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby, NC. A funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, December 2, 2011 at Cornwell Presbyterian Church with Reverends Tim Foster, Harry Gindhart and Max Burgin officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and interment will be held in the church cemetery. Reverend Burdette was born on June 5, 1927 in Clarksmills, PA. He was a son of the late Oscar W. Burdette, Sr. and Mildred Synder Burdette. He was a graduate of Stonesboro High School in Stonesboro, PA, Ohio Northern in Ada, Ohio and Methodist Theological School in Deleware, Ohio. Reverend Burdette was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during WWII and the widower of Patricia Jackson Burdette.He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn B. Wince (Dick) of Lattimore, NC; two grandchildren, Kenneth Wince(Chrissy) of Boiling Springs, NC and Erik Wince of Winston-Salem, NC; three great-grandchildren, Rachael, Carson and Cade; two brothers, George Burdette of TX and Vivian Â?WhizÂ? Burdette of Ohio; four sisters, Lucille Komar, Roberta Gerber, Thelma Albert and Jocelyn Buckley all of PA.
