Neil Lyles Roddey, 85, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2020. There will be a memorial service on a later date. Mr. Roddey was born in Chester, SC on December 28, 1934. He was the son of the late Paul Marion Roddey and Mary Irene Hardin Roddey. He was a graduate of Chester High School and Durham Barber Academy. Mr. Roddey was a barber for 60 years, cutting the hair of multiple generations. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School. He was previously a member of Parkway Baptist church where he also taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon. In addition to his parents, Mr. Roddey was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Smith Roddey and a brother Dale Roddey. He is survived by daughters, Kay Phillips (Don) of Mooresville, NC; Tracey McCarley (Turner) of Blackstock, SC; two grandchildren, Brent (Rebecca) of Concord, NC and Amy Smith (Tyler) of Mooresville, NC; three great-grandchildren, Sawyer Smith, Tinsley Smith and Owen Phillips; sister, Nan Roberts (Harold) of Rock Hill, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Roddey was a gentle, loving, and long-suffering man. He was a great father and teacher of life. Mr. Roddey loved a good joke and enjoyed the laughter of his many customers. He will be greatly missed by the many lives he touched. As a tribute to Mr. Roddey, the family has requested memorials be made to your local Hospice and Community Care.
