Mrs. Nancy Blackmon Grant, 80, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family. Nancy was born in Chester, SC on June 27, 1931.She attended Chester High School where she met and married the love of her life Ed Grant.They moved to Charlotte in 1954 and she began a career in the banking industry, which lasted for 42 years.Banking was her passion.Her co-workers and her customers loved the sassy little red head with the infectious smile.Although banking was a man?s world at that time, by the late 1960?s she was determine to make it a woman?s world, which she accomplished. She retired in 1996 as Senior Vice President of BB & T in Charlotte. Nancy served on many Civic and community organizations, the American Women?s Bankers Association, American Cancer Society Charlotte Branch, Civitan Club of Charlotte, Chamber of Commerce in Charlotte, United Way and the Housing Authority of Charlotte are just a few to mention.She was also treasurer for the Sue Myrick campaign during Sue?s time as Mayor of Charlotte. Nancy was very active in Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, in Charlotte where she was an Elder and served on every committee she could squeeze in her schedule and also chaired the Evangelism Committee for three years.She loved her church family and was very dedicated to serving God. The most important thing in Nancy?s life was her family.She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.She is survived by her husband ofsixty-two years, Edgar W. Grant; two daughters, Susan Grant Harper (husband Bobby) of Dallas, NC and Sandra ?Sandi? Grant Green (husband Zeb) of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, April Price Campbell (husband Johnny) of Huntersville, NC, Michael Z. Green, Jr. (wife Jessie) of Gastonia, NC and Jessica Lee Green(boyfriend Brandon Johnson) of Charlotte, NC; three great grandchildren, Karsen, Carter and Jack Campbell; one sister, Joyce Blackmon Grant and many nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Garfield Blackmon and Manie Blackmon Flennigan, step-father, William Flennigan, brother, James Blackmon and sisters, Mary Saylors and Jean Page and a grandson Grant Green. Nancy?s family would like to express sincere gratitude and love to Nancy?s caregivers, Trill McGee, Leah Gatewood and Joan Barnette. A memorial service will be held 6:00 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2012at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, 7407 Steele Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 27217 with Dr. W. Jeffrey Pinkston officiatingto celebrate Nancy?s life.A visitation will follow the service in the Family Life Center of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church from 7:00 ? 9:00 p.m.A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012 atArmenia United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2840 Armenia Road, Chester, SC 29706 with a visitation to follow in the Armenia Fellowship Hall.
