Chester, SC: Mildred Umphlett King, 88, died Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Chester Regional Medical Center.A funeral service will be held 5:00 PM Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church,760 Calvary Church Road,Chester, SCwith Reverend David Sealy officiating. Interment will be held in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of the church. Born in Perquimas County, NC on May 21, 1924, Mrs. King was a daughter of the late Ernest Umphlett and Martha Hurdle Umphlett.She was a graduate of Granby High School in Norfolk, VA and a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class. Mrs. King was a former member of Tuesday Morning Bible Study at Cyclone Restaurant. She was the widow of William F. King. She is survived by two sons, George Gorney of Abingdon, Virginiaand Charles Caudle of Virginia Beach,Virginia; one step-son James Caudle of Chesapeake, VA and one step-daughter, Janet Caudle of Norfolk, VA;one brother James Umphlett and his wife Fran of New York, NY; three nieces, Wylie Ann Sealy and her husband David and Peggy Walker and her husband Rick all of Rock Hill, SC and Carol Varnadore and her husband A.T. of Chester, SC and several nieces and nephews.
