Melissa Lindsey, 47, of 961A Shallowbrook Drive, Chester, died Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Atrium Health in Pineville, NC. Visitation will be held at Barron Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on Thursday, September 15, 2022, and all other times at the home. A Memorial Service will be held 3:30 PM Friday, September 16, 2022, at Chester Freedom Ministries with Reverend Steve Bishop and Reverend Bill Stallings officiating. Born April 29, 1975, in Laurinburg, North Carolina; Melissa was the daughter of William (Bill) Lindsey, Jr. and the late Linda McManus Lindsey. Melissa was a 1993 graduate of Chester High School where she was on the Lady Cyclone’s Softball Team, Tennis Team and 1993 State Championship Basketball Team. Melissa graduated from Spartanburg Methodist in 1995 where she was on the Women’s Tennis Team. She furthered her education at Limestone College continuing her athletic career on the Saints Women’s Tennis Team and graduating with honors with a degree in Physical Education in 1997. Upon graduation, Melissa returned to Chester to teach Physical Education at Chester Park Complex. She has taught the children of Chester County for 25 years. Melissa also led the Children’s Ministry at Chester Freedom Ministries (formerly known as Chester Second Baptist Church) for 18 years--ministering to children through AWANA programs, annual summer camps and other events. Many youth and families have been impacted for Christ through her service to the children. From teammates, to colleagues, to students, and family and friends; Melissa was selfless, faithful and loyal. In addition to her mother, Melissa is preceded in death by her brother, Timothy Wayne Lindsey, paternal grandparents, William Lindsey, Sr. and Doris Lindsey and her maternal grandparents, Ira B. McManus and Marie Conner McManus. Melissa is survived by her soulmate, Robert Wishert; brother, William Lindsey (Bonnie), and sister, Gina Jordan (Thomas); all of Chester; niece, Caroline Lindsey, nephews, Liam and Bryce Lindsey, nephews, Ryan Jordan (Megan) and Tyler Jordan (Krista); all of Chester; great-nephew, Jase Jordan and great-niece, Millie Jordan; both of Chester. Memorials may be made to Chester Freedom Ministries Children’s Program or Horizons Christian Academy’s Child Development Center, both located at 729 Village Drive, Chester, SC 29706.
