Maureen Teresa O'Farrell Stephenson

Maureen O’Farrell Stephenson died Sunday March 1, 2026. A Gathering of friends and family will be held at Barron Funeral Home on Thursday, March 5, 2026 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

Maureen was born December 11, 1943 in West Didsbury, Manchester, England. She was the first generation English member of her family born to Irish parents, James and Alice O’Farrell. She met her husband, Walter H. Stephenson III, in Kaiserslautern, Germany in 1970 while she was working as a civilian secretary for the US Army where he served.

She said her proudest moment in life was becoming a US citizen in 1976, the country's bicentennial. She is survived by her children, Walter (Wally) H. Stephenson, IV (Melanie), and Kelly-Marie McMurray (Stanley), and her 6 grandchildren: Noah, Blythe, and Mary Kendall Edwards; and Cathy (CJ), Tim, and Reese McMurray. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Walter, her brothers, Jimmy and Frank, as well as her parents.

She was a devoted homemaker, substitute teacher, secretary in both England and America, and a doting mother to her two children. She graduated top of her secretary school class and loved being a secretary. She loved to give to others and often put everyone else before her own needs. She had a fondness for dogs and always gave dog treats for her children’s dogs and donated to animal rescues. She loved to give money to children in the store to buy a little treat. She was known to try to give monetary tips to anyone who helped her even when it was against their store policy. She was also known as the cupcake lady for always making cupcakes for her children’s classes. She was a room mother, a den mother, a team mother, and she treated her children’s best friends like her own children. She gave out hundreds of books to parents for their children over the years as little gifts. A mother to all, her colorful language, expressive stories, and her wit will be deeply missed by her children, family, and friends.
