Ms. Mary Alice Miller Whitener, 72, formerly of Chester,died Monday, March 14, 2011 at Agape Senior Services in Rock Hill, SC.A memorial service will be held6:00 PM Thursday at First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. John Porter officiating.The interment will be private.The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Thursday at First Church of the Nazarene. Born October 15, 1938 in Rodman, SC, Ms. Whitener was a daughter of the late William Henry Miller and Alice Ferrell Miller.She was a graduate of Chester High School and Berry College in Rome, GA.She was retired from the Chester County School District after thirty-two years of service as an elementary school teacher.She served on Chester Metropolitan District Board of Directors and on the Chester Zoning Board and was a mentor with the Adult Literacy Reading Program. Ms. Whitener was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and Friends of the Animals.She enjoyed knitting and crocheting items that she donated to Chester County D.S.S. and many other charities. She is survived by one daughter, Suzanne Whitener Jenkins and her husband Scott of Southgate, KY and two sisters, Betty Pittman and Ruth Hinson and her husband Jimmy all of Chester and one brother Larry Miller and his wife Joyce of York, SC.
