Elizabeth was the oldest of three children born January 17, 1943 in Mt. Airy, North Carolina. She is the daughter of the late Franklin and Maude Stepp. Elizabeth was a 1995 graduate of Winthrop University with a Bachelor’s of Art Degree in History. She was a long time member of Purity Presbyterian Church. Elizabeth was also an avid world traveler and a Master Level Award Winning Gardener. Elizabeth was a voracious reader. Bill or Betsy could find her sitting by a lamp at all hours of the night reading. She loved history books, mainly the life of the Kennedys and the Roosevelts, and she loved a good mystery.
Her greatest pleasures were spending time with the people she loved. She was always ready to welcome friends with coffee, pound cake, a deck of cards and laughter. She loved her brother and sister. She loved her children, Bill and Betsy, with all her heart. Her grandchildren, Will, John, Julia and Luke were her heartbeats. She loved them a “bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck!” It’s been discovered that even into her 70’s she was enjoying adventures such as zip-lining and river tubing with her grandchildren.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, William “Bill” Ira Hobbs, IV (Kristine) of Lexington, SC and Katherine Elizabeth “Betsy” Cummings of Boiling Springs, SC; her sister Marjorie Chilton (Gary) of Mt. Airy, NC; and her grandchildren William “Will” Ira Hobbs V, John Samuel Cummings, Julia Elizabeth Cummings, and Luke Edward Hobbs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin and Maude Stepp, her husband, Benjamin Rutledge Wall Jr., and her brother, James Franklin Stepp.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to either Purity Presbyterian Church 135 Wylie Street, Chester SC 29706 or Agape Care Group of Spartanburg 187 North Church Street Suite 201, Spartanburg SC 29306
