Mary Ellen Yongue Freeman

Chapin Mrs. Mary Ellen Yongue Freeman, 97, died Sunday, January 31, 2021 at MUSC Health Chester Nursing Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 8, 2021 at Chester Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jason Myers officiating. Mrs. Freeman was born August 30, 1923 in Chester County and was a daughter of the late Joseph Yongue and Mary Reid Yongue. She was a graduate of Oakley High School and was a homemaker until working with B.C.Moore as a sales clerk .In 1939 during WWII Mrs. Freeman traveled to Dayton, Ohio where she worked outfitting war planes with commutation radios. She and her husband were both charter members of VFW in Chester. She was a member of Purity Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two sons, James Douglas “Doug” Freeman (Gloria) of Chapin, SC and Walter David Freeman (Carol) of Chester, SC; one daughter, Cheryl Lynn Hayhurst (Randy) of Gilbert, AZ; seven grandchildren Jamie Freeman(Mekissa) of Prosperity, SC, Wendi L. Freeman of Columbia, SC, Andy Freeman and Jennifer Vazquez(Urias) all of Rock Hill, SC and Lucas, Jordan and Elliott Hayhurst all of AZ and numerousgreat grandchildren.
