Upon retirement, he received the Meritorious Civil Service Award. He was a member of the National Association of Superintendents and Federal Managers Association while working.
He was a member of the Family Riders Motorcycle Club where his love of dirt bike riding really started. Marvin coordinated many events with the most notable being the Armenia Dual Sport fundraiser for his beloved Church, the Armenia Methodist Church raising huge sums of money over the years by convincing Church members to let him use their property to establish trail. Needless to say, he was an avid fan of all things related to the dirt bike community. He coordinated trips to ride in Colorado numerous times over the years and even coordinated a club trip as volunteers to the 1994 International Six Days Enduro in Oklahoma.
He held various positions in his church and led members as Trustee Chairman to accomplish much needed renovations to the church property costing over $120,000 which was paid off less than 4 years with his fundraiser and donations from members.
As his close friends knew, he was very conservative in his world views and said many times to not let him vote democrat when he died. :)
