Martha Moffatt Hicklin Sudol

CHESTER: Mrs. Martha Moffatt Hicklin Sudol, 84, of the Fishing Creek Community of Chester County, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 8, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. The funeral service will be 2:00 PM Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church with Rev. Don Simpson officiating.The interment will be in the church cemetery.The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Barron Funeral Home. Born in Chester County, SC on December 16, 1929, Mrs. Sudol was the daughter of the late Frank Hicklin and Martha Mary Kee Hicklin.She graduated from Winthrop College in 1951 with a major in Zoology.Mrs. Sudol began her teaching career in South Carolina in the Claredon County School District.She later began teaching in Hartsville, SC where she met her husband of 55 years, the late Anthony Joseph Sudol .They moved to the Fishing Creek Community of Chester County to raise their three children.Mrs. Sudol continued teaching in the schools of York and Chester Counties.She was a lifelong member of Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church where she was involved in many activities to include documentation of the church history, as well as, the preservation of the historical cemetery.She was well-known for her beautiful flower arrangements in the church sanctuary. Mrs. Sudol was a strong “Southern Lady” who enjoyed spending time with her loved ones, caring for others and cooking wonderful meals for friends and family.Mrs. Sudol always made an impact on everyone that she met.Martha will always be remembered for her strength, tenacity and her up-beat personality.The family would like to extend appreciation to Hospice and Community Care of Rock Hill and to her caregivers, Vanie Sefuku, Paula Therrien, and Tina McDaniel. She is survived by her three children, Fran Sudol Hutchins (Aysan Cangiray) of Rock Hill, SC, Anthony Joseph Sudol, Jr. (Kim) of Clover, SC and Charles William “Bill” Sudol (Linda) of Chester; three grandchildren, Melissa Susan Sudol, Paul Anthony Sudol both of Clover and Katherine Elizabeth Sudol of Chester; one sister, Margaret Hicklin Porter of Rock Hill, SC; two nieces and one nephew; and her two devoted cats, Inky and Zeke.Mrs. Sudol was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Joseph Sudol, and a sister, Esther Hicklin Frew.
