CHESTER, SC : Celebrating the life of Marlene Holsten Castles of Lowrys, South Carolina.She dearly loved her family and husband, Freddie.She went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by her family on Monday, April 11, 2016, at the home of her daughter, Lori, in Athens, Georgia. A celebration of Life will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Lowrys with Reverend Jerry Broughton and Reverend Michael Shaffer officiating.The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Thursday in the sanctuary of the church.Interment will be held in Zion Cemetery. Born in Minden, Nebraska on December 21, 1936, Mrs. Castles was the daughter of Oscar Frank Holsten and Elva Shorgren Holsten.Marlene was a graduate of Minden High School and throughout her banking career completed many banking professional development courses.She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Lowrys and a member of the SYAH (Stay Young And Happy) Team.Mrs. Castles was a very active and involved member of the Chester Lions Club.She was retired from the banking profession after 42 years of service. Marlene enjoyed reading her Bible and daily morning Bible study.She loved her Fidelis Sunday school class, and participating in community service through Lions Club and the Ministerial Food Pantry at Purity Presbyterian Church.She played the piano and organ for a number of years at the First Baptist Church of Lowrys and Zion Presbyterian Church, also in Lowrys.Mrs. Castles loved music, dancing, and reading. Survived by husband Fred Weir Castles, Jr of 58 years.Children: Lori Castles Settlemyer (Kerry) of Watkinsville, GA; Fred W. Castles, III (Autumn) of Rock Hill, SC; and Kandi Castles Ferrandino (Paul) of St. Charles, Illinois.Grand Children: Megan Settlemyer May (Colby); Drew Settlemyer, Ashley Settlemyer, Christian Ferrandino, Julia Grace Ferrandino, Mason Atherton, Nick Ferrandino, Alex Ferrandino Brown (Steve), Ashton Ferrandino and one great grandchild Ryan Brown.Also, survived by one sister, Charmaine Holsten Thomsen, from Minden, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Paul Walston, from Greensburg, Indiana, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by sister Sheila Holsten Walston of Greensburg, IN, brother Oscar Lamoine Holsten of Minden, NE, and brother-in-law, Wisthi Thomsen also of Minden, NE.
