Maria Soccorro Leon

Maria Socorro Leon, 83, went home to be with the Lord on September 10, 2024 after a courageous and long battle with cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chester, SC on Tuesday September 17, 2024 at 10 am. Visitation and brunch will be held at the family home in Chester, SC. Maria was born on July 28,1941 and was a daughter of the late Ramon Leon Martinez and his late wife, Maria Ventura Martinez Muñoz. The deceased was a well loved and respected Neonatal nurse and worked with babies for 20 yrs. Not having children of her own, she prided herself in caring for her family. She nursed her parents until they passed. She moved to Long Island, NY 28 years ago and helped her niece care for her great nieces. She loved family gatherings and attending Church. She was a Eucharistic Minister at two Long Island Parishes, St. Boniface Church in Elmont, NY and St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Franklin Square, NY. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and caregiver. Maria was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Domingo Leon and Adolfo De Leon and her nephew,Neftali De Leon; as well as sisters, Juanita LeBron, Margarita Leon Rodriguez, Carmen Leon Malave, Eugenia Leon and Caridad Leon. She is survived by her sisters, Elena Zuniga, Felicita Rivera and Anselma Ruiz; her brothers, Sergio Leon and Joaquin De Leon; her nieces, Carmen Socorro Lau and her husband, Lee and their two daughters, Edda L. Rodriguez and her husband, Ramonita Rodriguez, Iris Rodriguez and Aida Leon Gonsalves and her husband, Derek; Sonia Leon; Adriana Leon; Araceli Rivera; Mary Ann DeLeon; Elizabeth Drayton and her husband and two daughters, Yesenia Malave and Marlene Botta and her husband, Anthony; and nephews, Hiram Rivera, Sergio Leon Jr., and Nestalis De Leon and his Wife Natalie. Also surviving are great nieces, Alexandria Grimm and her husband Todd, Jacqueline Botta, Francesca Botta, Sofia Leite, Soraya Leon, Nestalis Anthony Leon, Sophia De Leon, Victoria De Leon, Dakota Leon, Sergio Leon, III and Alex Michael Leon; great-great nieces and nephews, Willow Grimm, Sergio Devon Leon, IV, Gabriel Leon and Joshua Leon, Alanna S Perez Malave, Dereck Y Perez Malave and Dylan Z Perez Malave.
