Margaret Susan McCandless Hausman

Margaret Susan Hausman, 96, died Thursday March 5, 2026 at MUSC Chester Nursing Center. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 10 2026 at Barron Funeral Home with Dr. Dwight Pearson and Reverend Robert Brozina officiating. Burial of cremated remains will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Margaret Susan was born in Chester, South Carolina on May 7, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Hamilton McCandless, Jr. and Susan Rebecca Knox McCandless. She was a graduate of Chester High School and Winthrop College. Margaret Susan was a Chemist by trade, but her lifelong love was farming and caring for her land and cattle. She was a lifelong member of Uriel Presbyterian Church where she formerly served as Clerk of Session, Elder, Choir Member and Women of the Church. She also was a driver of the first bus the church bought and she served on the Cemetery Committee and was their Treasurer for quite some time. She was also a commissioner with the Chester Soil and Water Conservation District for over twenty-four years. Margaret Susan also enjoyed bird watching and woodworking and tending to her cows and caring for her dogs and cats.

In addition to her parents, Margaret Susan was preceded in death by her Husband, Correll Charles Hausman. She is survived by her first cousin, Dr. James Gill Knox, III of Tega Cay, SC and special friends, Erin Culp and Carolyn McDowell both of Chester, SC.
